Mark Howe, who spent 10 seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers and was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003, returns to Philadelphia as a head coach for the CCM/USA Hockey All-American Prospects Game for the first time.

Howe played 16 seasons in the NHL, suiting up for the Hartford Whalers (1979-1982), Philadelphia Flyers (1982-92) and Detroit Red Wings (1992-95). A five-time NHL All-Star, Howe totaled 742 points (197-545) in 929 career NHL games. He also holds the NHL record for most career shorthanded goals by a defenseman with 28. Howe began his professional career with six seasons in the World Hockey Association and led the Houston Aeros to the 1974 and 1975 Avco Cups alongside his brother, Marty, and father, Gordie.

Internationally, Howe represented the U.S. on two occasions. At age 16, he helped Team USA earn a silver medal at the 1972 Olympic Winter Games in Sapporo, Japan, and became the youngest hockey player to win an Olympic medal. He also represented Team USA at the 1981 Canada Cup.

Howe, who will enter his 21st season with the Detroit Red Wings in 2016-17, currently serves as the team’s director of pro scouting. He was a pro scout for the Red Wings’ championship runs in 1997, 1998 and 2002 and was in his current role for Detroit’s last championship in 2008.
